The things no one tells you when you migrate with your partner...

Everyone says, “How cool, you didn’t go alone!” And yes, it’s true, you’re not alone… but no one tells you what it’s really like when you migrate as a couple. When my partner and I — both engineers — decided to take the leap, we thought the hardest part would be finding a job, organizing papers, and understanding the country's system. But what no one prepared us for was the emotional impact and the tension that comes from being far away from everything you know.
Distance is not just physical.
Migrating with your partner is not the same as moving to a different city within your home country. Here you don’t have:
Your family close by,
Your lifelong friends,
Your emotional support network.
When tough things happen — and believe me, they do — there’s no one to hug you. There’s no “everything will be fine” from your mom, your best friend, or your cousins who have always been there.
Losing loved ones while being so far away, going through grief without being able to say goodbye, or simply facing daily problems you used to share with your family, it weighs on you. And that also tests the relationship in ways you never imagined.
Arguments, roles, and doubts.
Yes, we’ve argued: over money, decisions, the future… just like back home. But everything intensifies when you're far away.
Sometimes one takes the lead, the other simply follows, and then the questions arise:
“Did we do the right thing by coming?”
“Is all this effort worth it?”
The truth is, there are no perfect answers. What does work is talking, talking, and talking. Everything that is not communicated builds up and ends up creating emotional distance.
The emotional load is real.
As a woman, I often felt alone. We carry so much mentally and emotionally: the planning, the organizing, the adaptation… and not having your mom, your friends, your tribe, is tough.
But I learned something important: you can build a new tribe. We found other couples, friends who were going through the same thing, resilient men and women who understood what it means to start over far from home. This new network helps hold you up and ensures you don’t feel alone in everything.
The good part: growing together.
All the challenges brought us closer. Today, we work together in the same company: we built it together, and it’s our life’s mission: Entrelingo Group.
Today we are a team in EVERYTHING:
Raising our child,
Organizing the home,
At work,
In life.
Migrating with your partner can be the biggest challenge and the most beautiful adventure at the same time. Learning to support each other, respect each other’s time, compromise, and negotiate strengthens the relationship in ways you never imagined.

Tips for couples migrating:
If you’re about to take this leap, remember:
📍 There will be moments of tension. Migration isn’t just about work and visas; it’s about emotions.
📍 Everything intensifies when you’re far from your support network.
📍 Arguments are normal, but talking always prevents emotional distance from growing bigger than the physical one.
📍 Building a new social and emotional network is key: connect with other couples, other migrants, find your tribe.
📍 Work together on projects that bring you closer. Whether it’s a business, a personal project, or raising a child, it strengthens the relationship.
At the end of the day, you only have each other, and if you take care of that, it’s enough.
