I got my Australian residency in less than 6 months

Many believe that the path to Australian residency begins when you step foot on Australian soil. The truth is, for many migrants, that dream begins long before you get on the plane.

This was my story: a plan that began in Colombia, full of effort, strategy, mistakes, lessons learned, and, above all, faith. Today I'm sharing my migration journey with you step by step, so you know that it's possible—as long as you know where to start.

My husband and I had a goal: 👉 Obtaining permanent residency in Australia.

And we decided the best way to do it was to plan it from our country, with strategy and patience.

We realized we needed two fundamental pillars: 🎓 our profession (for the Skills Assessment) 🗣️ and English (for the IELTS).

Although I had already studied English, I prepared seriously. I took courses and took the exam several times until I got the exact score required by the Department of Home Affairs.

It was a long process, but each attempt brought me a little closer to my goal.

📎 If you're at this stage, you can review the IELTS requirements and official equivalencies at homeaffairs.gov.au.

"I took my Skills Assessment from Colombia"

The next step was to validate my profession through Skills Assessment Australia. And yes, it can be done 100% online, even from your country.

It was a challenging process: I gathered documents, requested job references, translated certificates with certified NAATI translators, and learned to understand the evaluating body's criteria.

There were mistakes, corrections, nights of frustration… and almost a rejection. But with patience, professional guidance, and the right translations, my evaluation was finally approved.

“We came on a student visa and found a new opportunity.”

Since we didn't have enough points to apply directly for residency, we opted for a two-year student visa. It was the opportunity to study, improve our English, and gain time to plan our next move.

And it was the best decision.

Three months after arriving, we discovered another alternative: the 489 regional visa, which allowed us to live and work in a regional area, accumulating points and local experience.

The process was meticulous:

We submitted the EOI (Expression of Interest).

We waited a few months.

And finally… BOOM! That same year, we obtained temporary residency.

One of the greatest achievements of our lives.

“From temporary to permanent residency (and then, citizenship)”

Two years later, we applied for the 887 visa to obtain permanent residency. We already had two children, and with that visa, we gained access to Medicare, the Australian public health system. It was a huge relief: free healthcare, security, and stability.

A year later, after four years in the country, we applied for Australian citizenship. It took 14 months. And today, officially, we are Australian citizens.

“It wasn't luck. It was strategy, preparation, and faith.”

It's been 7 years since we landed in Australia. And if I've learned anything, it's that migrating isn't just about visas, but about aligning your personal, professional, and family purpose.

Today, my husband and I are the founders of Entrelingo Group, where we help other Latinos build their own migration path: 👉 with MARA-registered migration agents (AustraliaPRO) 👉 with Skills Assessments (SkillsPRO) 👉 with certified NAATI translations (Entrelingo Traducciones) 👉 and even with sponsored job opportunities (JobPRO Talent)

It wasn't magic. It was strategy. And a lot, a lot of faith. 💛
